BEAUTY TIPS | 14 August 2017
Monochromatic makeup is the easy peasy technique of keeping your lips, eyes and cheeks all within one colourway and it’s one of the hottest summer looks around.
Different beauty trends come and go but monochromatic makeup is still one of the hottest looks around. It’s the easy peasy technique of keeping your lips, eyes and cheeks all within one colourway and guess what? Anyone can pull it off. All you need is a favourite base colour.
Monochromatic can be everyday or edgy, depending on your mood. But as a general rule, the more neutral your base colour, the simpler this look is to pull off.
The days of agonising over your multi palette, wondering which shades go well with what, are over once you’ve embraced monochromatic. The brilliance of this A-Lister’s favourite (it’s a regular on the catwalk and everyone was doing it at the Oscars) is that you only need to choose one colour and then apply it everywhere.
You can go monochromatic in every shade, from browns and nudes, to pretty pinks and peaches. Empty your makeup bag out onto the table and start experimenting. Pick the colour family that suits your complexion and stay within a shade or two. Natural hues look great when you want to keep your makeup look subtle and let your clothes do the talking, while more vibrant shades are going to make a bolder makeup statement to get you noticed.
Play around with different products and experiment with textures and finishes, mixing some matte here and a little shimmer there. Summery pinks and nudes work a treat for most skin tones and are perfect for summertime, but if you’re feeling more adventurous, or want a high-glam evening look, you can go bold with rich purples and plum. Monochromatic can be everyday or edgy, depending on your mood. But as a general rule, the more neutral your base colour, the simpler this look is to pull off.
