Be a natural beauty this Valentine's Day

Anyone who likes to keep up with Ms Kardashian, can’t have failed to notice she’s been looking a lot more…well…natural lately.  The undisputed Queen of Contouring has been sporting a noticeably more toned down make-up look, leading the growing trend towards ‘au naturel’.

Take a leaf out of new-look Kim’s book when it comes to your own make up this Valentine’s Day, says celebrity make-up artist, Enya Sullivan. When it comes to looking effortlessly glamorous for a romantic date, less is definitely more.

When it comes to looking effortlessly glamorous for a romantic date, less is definitely more.

Here Enya shares her top tips for looking naturally gorgeous on February 14th.

Tip one: Get glowing

“First step is to kick start your complexion so it’s bright and dewy. A DIY collagen mask is the perfect thing. There are many different brands to choose from on the high street depending on your budget (Boots stock the Gold Collagen Hydrogel Mask for £19.99). Most masks take around 15 mins to soak into the skin and you should find they leave it looking plump, refreshed and ready for your makeup. Just be sure to remove any excess product with a clean, damp flannel and apply a moisturiser to your skin before you reach for the foundation.”

Tip Two: Flawless foundation

“For me, the best kind of Valentine’s look is soft, feminine and flawless. You should never look too caked in make-up. The right foundation colour and consistency is crucial, as is how you apply it. I like to mix a little liquid illuminator into my base on the back of my hand to create a flattering sheen on the skin first. I’ll then use a flat foundation brush and, starting in the middle of my face, blend out towards the jaw line. If I want a very subtle, natural-looking result, I blend my foundation out using a damp beauty sponge, using a dabbing action to help maintain even all-over coverage. If you want your foundation barely there, use a fluffy brush instead of the sponge and buff product evenly.”

Tip Three: Irresistible eyes

“Excess oil is any eye product’s worst enemy, so before you get to work on your eye make-up, gently sweep a cotton wool pad soaked in oil-free eye makeup remover over each eyelid. Next apply a little foundation to create an even colour base on which to apply your eye products. For a natural look I recommend a bronze tone cream colour, which you can apply with your ring finger, blending outwards so it looks soft and subtle. Next apply a shimmery soft brown eyeshadow (using a flat eyeshadow brush) to create a light veil of natural smokiness and blend using a fluffy eyeshadow brush. Then, using an angled brush, apply shadow to your bottom lash line and gently smudge with your fluffy eyeshadow brush. Finally apply liberal amounts of mascara to frame the beautiful shadow work you’ve just created. For an extra pop you could add a kohl liner to your water liner for a sexy sultry finish.”

Tip four: Tinted cheeks

“For a soft, natural cheek definition I recommend using a cream blush as it will coat your skin with a pretty sheen and add to your overall glow.  Apply using either your fingers or a stipple brush (also called a skunk brush) to the apple of your cheeks.

Tip five: Kissable lips

“For ultra-kissable lips prepping is essential!  Start with a lip scrub, which you can make easily at home. Simply mix a little coconut oil and sugar together and using a toothbrush, gently rub in circular motions onto your lips to remove any dead skin. Wipe off with a clean damp flannel and then apply a lip balm (the new Lypsyl range contains lots of lovely natural aloe vera and avocado oil to moisturise lips). Blot excess balm with a tissue, then line your lips with whatever colour liner you’ve decided on. If you fill in your lips with the liner your lipstick should also last longer. Apply your lipstick next, blot with a tissue and reapply.  If you want a natural kiss-proof look, stick with a nude liner and fill in the lips as before, then apply a super shiny gloss for instant glamour.”

Tip six: Keep your cool

“Sneak a skin spritzer into your handbag to keep you cool when things get steamy…! A quick spritz during your date (when he’s disappeared to get more Champagne?) will help keep your make-up looking fresh and ‘just-applied’. You can buy delicious scented ones he won’t be able to resist – Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer, (£14.75) smells heavenly.”
